Mrs. Diane Southard
Mrs. Southard
Hello! I'm Diane Southard, your child's 4th grade teacher this year! I have been teaching at Stapleton since 2006. I have taught 2nd grade and 4th grade while here. In addition to teaching at Stapleton, I taught Alternative Jr. High at Neosho. I am a Missouri Southern graduate and I'm an eMINTS graduate. I am currently enrolled in the Master's program at Pittsburg State University, in Educational Technology, Technology Integration Specialist. I am expecting to graduate in May 2014! I'm so excited to learn more about integrating technology into our classroom.
I have now lived in Carl Junction for the past 22 years. I've been married to my husband, Eric, for 24 years now and we have two beautiful daughters, Nikki, 21, who just got married in July 2012, and Becky, who's 18 and a senior at Carl Junction High School. Other additions in our family are our 2 dogs, Casey, and Whitey.
I have several hobbies! As a family we love to go camping and to the lake! I enjoy gardening, and watching sports, like football on t.v. I am a huge Steelers fan! You can expect to see lots of Steelers memorabilia in my classroom! My husband and I enjoy watching minor league baseball and are season ticket holders to the Kansas City Royals minor league team, the Arkansas Naturals. I also enjoy traveling the world during the summer months. I've been to London, Wales, Ireland, Japan, Australia, France, Italy and Greece!
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe each student is different and learns differently than anyone else.
I will do my best to recognize each learning style and provide appropriate
learning possibilities for each student. Our class will be a safe zone for
students to feel free to be themselves. I insist on respect between
students, as well as myself. Most of all, I want us to have fun while we
explore, inquire, grow, and learn together. I will also work to introduce
and expand the students knowledge of the amazing technology available in our
room.
