We observed Labor Day this week and had an extra day out of school. We had a busy week here in Mrs. Southard's class. This past week we also observed the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have Dream Speech. We listened to his speech as a class and read a book about his famous speech. When we were done, our class began discussing their dreams. In the process we decided to make a video of our class dreams! I was amazed at the dreams the students have. I was so proud of them for putting some good thought into their dreams. We worked for about two days and finished our video on Friday, just in time for lunch in the classroom. The kids were so excited to show it to the parents. I think it turned out pretty awesome! In case you didn't get a chance to see it, it's on our Facebook page (Mrs. Southard.)
Speaking of lunch in the classroom, we had a great turn out! I began hosting lunch in the classroom last year. It was a huge success and I knew I had to continue on this year! Every three weeks we invite the parents to come to lunch with their child in the classroom. It's such a great time for all of us! We did it on a Friday this past week and unfortunately the Enrichment students missed out, so from here on out, we will have lunch in the classroom on Thursdays so we have everyone here.

Today we began our Rock and Minerals unit. I love listening to the kids work on this kit! They are so engrossed and the conversations are ALL about rocks. It always makes my heart warm to walk the room and know that the conversations aren't about what they played at recess, but
